Kyrgyzstan:
With horses through the wild heart of Asia

Although I can’t even ride at the time and have no prior experience, at an animal market in Kyrgyzstan, I buy my first horse. I load it with equipment and food and, with a bridle in hand, I trek several months through the wild highlands between Kazakhstan and China. This kind of travel fascinates me so much that I soon return to Kyrgyzstan. By now I’ve spent two years with horses in the Kyrgyz mountains. Over five summers, two winters and more than 5000km of distance, which I spent partly alone in the wilderness and partly with shepherds and hunters in the highlands, Kyrgyzstan became my second home.

In my award-winning talk with captivating photos, I am telling about losing my horses, never-ending snowstorms and nights at -40°C in my tent, about attacks of wolves and my friendship with a wolf, about Chinese terrorism and encounters with the military, as well as the undescribable hospitality and the hard life of the Kyrgyz nomads deep in the mountains.
